Police are hunting for unknown thugs one dressed in military attire and armed with a rifle, who set up an illegal roadblock and robbed people on Sembabule-Masaka road last night.
According to one of the victims identified as Muwonge Morishid a driver and resident of Nakatoke village, Mateete sub-county in Sembabule District, he was heading home with his wife and another passenger identified as Dez Byuma when they were intercepted by the thugs.
The thugs had erected the roadblock at Kakinga village along Mitete-Masaka road at about midnight.
Muwonge says that they were intercepted along with two Boda Boda riders and tied with ropes and their properties robbed.
The items robbed include the two motorcycles reg. nos. UFD 917 U, and UFN 077 B both Bajaj boxers red in colour, 5 mobile phones, unspecified amounts of money, a driving permit and a NID.
The wife together with the driver managed to escape and drove to Mitete Police post where the matter was reported.
Muhammad Nsubuga the Masaka regional spokesperson says the crime scene was visited by a team of officers led by Asp Musimami Godfrey and the victims were rescued.
Nsubuga adds that no bullet was discharged at the scene by thugs who fled the scene with two stolen motorcycles.
