Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA) has begun an official count on all Boda Boda operators in Kampala City.
This Census is unlike the official registration exercise ongoing with the KCCA and the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The exercise will run for 15 days up to August 30, 2022. between 8 am and 5 pm at selected centres in all the five divisions of the city.
It involves riders submitting application forms alongside National IDs, and logbooks among others in the free registration.
“Riders should come with duly filled application forms available at the census centres, national identity card, letters from LC and Parish Internal Security Officer and copies of the motorcycle logbooks,” a notice from KCCA reads in part.
This exercise comes as Boda Boda operators are protesting the fees involved in the registration.
In April this year, the Ministry of Works and Transport, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and the Uganda Police Force partnered with the Uganda Driving Licencing Agency to train riders as part of the ongoing campaign by the government to organize the Boda Boda Industry.
In total, a rider needs between Shillings 65,000 to 75,000 for the training.
While officially launching the registration and training exercise, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja said only 7000 Boda Bodas shall be allowed to operate in the Central Business District and unregistered riders would not be allowed in the City
