The three candidates in Kampala Lord Mayoral race have cast their votes at different polling stations in the city.
The first candidate to cast his vote was Daniel Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee at Kiggundu Zone, Makindye at 9:00am.
Ragga Dee would later speak to the media and confirm he will win this hotly contested election. He is representing the ruling NRM.
Second Kampala Lord mayoral candidate Issa Kikungwe later cast his vote at St Francis poll station, Kitebi by 10:30am.
Issa Kikungwe who has been a member of the 9th Parliament, claims he had health problems which affected his performance but is now ready to serve as mayor.
Asked on his standing on the DP ticket despite Erias Lukwago, another DP member, running, Kikungwe says they are not clashing.
The third candidate, and incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago cast his vote in Rubaga at around 11:30 am in company of his wife.
Upon casting his vote, Lukwago who was thrown out of his KCCA office in late 2013 by councilors, promised to work towards changing the life of city dwellers by improving the education, health and business sectors.
Today’s voting exercise has met serious resistance from Ugandans across the country with some polling stations yet to receive a single voter, despite materials being in place as early as 6:30am.
The exercise is slated to close at 4:00PM, while vote counting will immediately commence at different district head quarters.
Ugandans are today electing Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councilors, and Women Councilors for Districts, as well as Lord Mayor, Directly Elected Councilors, and Women Councilors for KCCA.
