Opposition forum for democratic change party, FDC has blamed the unprofessionalism in police on greedy inexperienced young officers who do stupid acts for money and ranks.
Addressing the media during the weekly party presser today at Najjanankumbi, Hon. Reagan Okumu the FDC Vice President said there are many senior and experienced officers who are on the bench awaiting deployment, while some young men are tainting the police image.
Okumu observes that whereas there are some unprofessional and greedy officers in the force, others are loyal to serving their country.
“We have very many professional police officers, others have still maintained their quality and character but will not get promoted. Quiet a number of senior police officers are on katebe and there are young officers who have been promoted rapidly” said Okumu.
He added; “This country has been compromised to a level of survival of dishing money to people. In this case, they dish you rank, and deployment so that you can get jobs. What we are demanding if we are talking to people with sanity in government, is that it was yesterday, they should actually remove Kayihura, but not only remove him but reprimanded him to make him answerable for what has happened.”
This comes at the time when president Museveni has also summoned the IGP to explain the development. Museveni told the media at Kyankwanzi leadership institute on Sunday that he needs the IGP to explain circumstances under which citizens were caned.
The president wants Gen. Kale Kayihura top explain whether the officers were responding to a violent demonstration, or a peaceful one.
