High Court Judge Yasin Nyanzi is today morning expected to commence the hearing of the bail application of jailed Nakawa Municipality MP Michael Kabaziguruka.
The MP is on remand at Kigo Government Prison where he was sent by Makindye General Court Martial. Kabaziguruka faces treason charges alongside 25 other people including UPDF officers.
His application is among the 50 bail applications that were fixed in the ongoing criminal session before Justice Yasin Nyanzi.
The bail application was supposed to be heard on Thursday but the judge has been caught up by other judicial work which prompted him to adjourn the matter to today at 11am.
Meanwhile, the same court has ordered Ruhinda County Member of Parliament Rtd Capt Donozio Kahonda to appear before Justice Nyanzi today without fail for the hearing of his application seeking court to stay criminal proceedings against him.
The development comes after Kahonda failed to appear in court for hearing of this matter, sending his lawyer Caleb Mwesigwa who told court that his client was sick.
However, Justice Nyanzi argued that the law of criminal matters requires the accused person to be physically present in court and that this law applies to every Ugandan including the popular Captain Kahonda.
Kahonda in his application wants court to suspend criminal proceedings for which he was released on bail by the Jinja Chief Magistrates court early this year after being accused of forgery and uttering false documents at the Military Academy in Jinja district in November 2001.
