The authorities identified one of the victims as 52-year-old Theresa Nyirabachengera, a resident Ikamiro in Buchimbiri Sub County who was washed away by the first running rain water while harvesting Irish potatoes in a swamp.
According to Vincent Besigye, a resident of Ikamiro, two people Nyirabachengera was working with were rescued from drowning by residents. By this morning, Nyirabachengera's whereabouts were still unknown.
Abel Bizimana, the Kisoro District LC V chairperson, says two children were also swept away in Footo village in Nyakabande Sub County. He however, declined to divulge details, saying a team from the district is trying to find the missing children.
David Kataratambi, the Ikamiro Village LC I Chairperson, says the floods also destroyed several crop gardens in the neighboring kigyeyo, Rugarambiro and Kagunga villages in Bukimbiri Sub County.
He says Muko-Rubuguri road which connects Kisoro and Rubanda districts is currently unmotorable. Most parts of western Uganda experienced heavy downpour on Wednesday evening
