Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president elect Patrick Amuriat Oboi will take oath on Thursday.
The former Member of Parliament for Kumi County, Amuriat defeated Maj. Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu, activist Moses Byamugisha and Dan Matsiko to take the leadership of the main opposition political party at a delegate's conference held at Namboole Stadium on Friday.
He polled 641 votes against Mugisha's 463 votes. Byamugisha polled 3 votes while Dan Matsiko scored 2 votes.
Upond being declared a winner, Amuriat's ecstatic supporters forced him to take the oath and start work immediately. However, FDC Deputy Secretary-General Harold Kaija says the oath that Amuriat took was not authentic because it was not administered by Commissioner of Oath and was taken beyond the authorized time.
According to the Oath Act, the mandate of administering oath is entrusted to the Chief Justice, a Judge of the High Court, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, a Magistrate, a Notary Public and any Commissioner for Oaths.
An earlier communication from FDC had indicated that Amuriat would take oath today. But according to Kaija, there are preparations within the party which caused a postponement. He says Human Rights Advocate Ladislaus Rwakafuzi will now administer the authentic oath on Thursday.
Amuriat will take oath together with Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye who was elected Deputy Treasurer (Mobilization) and Habib Buwembo who was elected Secretary for Labour.
He says Amuriat intends to launch countrywide mobilization to strengthen the party. "We intend to roll out a mobilization campaign. We had actually intended to start today but we are busy. We want to mobilize people to reject life presidency."
