President Yoweri Museveni has exercised his constitutional powers and appointed Democratic Party President Norbert Mao Minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs.
The slot was occupied by the current Public Service Minister Muruli Mukasa in an acting capacity. Previously, the Political Head of the Ministry was Hon. Major General Kahinda Otafire.
This appointment comes just hours after the two leaders met at the State House in Entebbe and signed a deal to work jointly.

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the chairperson of the NRM saluted DP for what he termed as the gesture of mature, foresighted, and constructive politics.
The meeting was also attended by Richard Todwong and Gerald Siranda, the Secretaries General of NRM and DP respectively.
It remains unclear what is contained in the signed memorandum of Understanding, but judging by the look of things, it seems to be a marriage for the two parties.
DP is Uganda’s oldest political party and a former party for the NRM chairman Yoweri Museveni.

On Wednesday, the President hinted that the DP is an unserious group without the NRM.
“You know the history. I keep telling you that DP without Museveni is not a serious group because I was a very active member of DP,” Museveni said.
He added that he was very happy with this milestone. He said that although DP has been supporting the opposition, they have been friendly and not destructive.
DP now joins Uganda People’s Congress in agreeing to work with the ruling NRM.
