People from all walks of life are in Kapchorwa to pay their last respects to legend Stephen Kiprotich’s last born child who will be laid to rest today (Sunday).

One-year-old Elizabeth Chelangat died of breathing difficulties on Friday as she was being transferred to Mulago hospital. She had earlier on been admitted to Mbale hospital.
“It is a big loss to the family. We shall miss her,” Kiprotich said
Chelangat was born after the Prisons officer won a marathon gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

She was the third and last born child of the Ugandan world champion and his wife Patricia Kiprotich.
They have a six-year daughter Esther Chebet and Elliot Musao who is three.
Kiprotich’s manager Godfrey Nuwagaba expressed grief over the toddler’s death, saying it was a difficult moment for the couple.

“It is a pity that she could not make it to Mulago. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Nuwagaba stated.
The Kiprotich family had fond memories of Chelangat, referred to in some circles as the “London Olympics” baby.

Patricia said after her husband won gold at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow last year that the special thing is that Chelangat was born after her husband gained fame.
“I conceived after my husband returned from the Olympic Games,” Patricia said at a ceremony to welcome Kiprotich from Moscow.
Pictures of a jovial Patricia carrying Chelangat, accompanied by her other children and relatives, attracted a lot of attention.

May Her Soul Rest In Peace
