The ministry of public service has announced that it will be commissioning the national records centre and archives building located on plot 8-9 Lourdel road tomorrow Thursday September 2016.
Addressing the press at the Uganda media center in Kampala today, the principal assistant secretary ministry of public service commission Ettedu Geoffrey said Uganda was the only country in the region lacking a standard records centre and archives.
He explains that this made it difficult for the country to effectively preserve and manage the national documented heritage for research and historical values and also benefit from the global institutional network.
“I am glad to inform the public that we have a state of the art facility for managing records and archives. This facility cost government 20.3 Billion shillings with funding from World Bank under the Uganda Public service performance enhancement project (UPSPEP)” said Ettedu.
He added that; “The facility has standard repositories, strong room for storage of classified information, mobile shelving for storage of records, conducive environment, to preserve records, search room for researchers, library, an exhibition room and incinerator for destruction of valueless records in an environmentally friendly manner.”
Rose Aliso, the acting commissioner records and information management at the ministry asked academicians and the public to make use of the facility.
