City socialite Don Nasser, whose real name is Nasser Nduhukire, is finally out on bail after spending almost three months in Luzira Prison. The Kampala High Court granted him release, but with some pretty strict conditions.
To get out, he had to pay 3 million shillings in cash bail, and his guarantors had to sign a non-cash bond of 50 million shillings each. The court also took his passport, meaning he can't travel outside the country without getting permission first. On top of that, he has to check in with the court registrar every month for the next six months.
Don Nasser and another person, Promise Gatete, were arrested back in September and charged with a very serious crime: aggravated trafficking of children for sexual exploitation. The charges relate to an incident involving a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly taken from Tagore Apartments in Kamwokya to the Kito-Kira Division and held there for three days.
Both Nasser and Gatete have said they're innocent, but they've been in Luzira waiting for their trial. This is a very serious charge, and the maximum punishment is the death penalty.
