Kabale woke up in the sad news of death of the man of God, Barnabas Halem ‘Imana who has been ill for months!

His tenure was riddled with rebellions among priests and the laity during 1993, after  "rebel priests" led their leader, Fr Geitano Batanyenda turned against him on grounds of tribal tensions

Who is Barnabas Halem ‘Imana?

He was appointed and consecrated as the first native Residential Bishop for Kabale Diocese to take over from Bishop Nkalanga by His Holiness Pope Paul VI at Kololo on 1st August 1969. He hails from Busanza, Kinanira Parish in the present Kisoro district. He was ordained priest on 7th December 1958 and served Mutolere Parish, The Ageeteraine Newspaper as editor and later after his studies in Canon Law as Secretary General for the Uganda Episcopal Conference. As a shepherd of Kabale for 25 years, he accomplished quite a lot for the Diocese.
