The deceased, Kaberuka Sekyerwa, was discovered by one Byabasiza at about 6:00 pm on Wednesday lying in the bush along the footpath crossing to Rwanda in Butale cell, Rukiga District.
The deceased had been working in Kampala until recently when he returned to Butale with plans to cross back to his home country Rwanda through porous routes.
Police in Rukiga are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, says the deceased could have been attacked by unknown assailants as he was about to cross.
“It is suspected he could have been attacked and killed by unknown assailants as he was about to cross. His body was found by one Byabasiza at around 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, as he was from his garden, lying in the bush along the footpath crossing to Rwanda,” Maate said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kamwezi Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem.
“The scene was visited on Thursday morning by Homicide team of RUKIGA Central Police Station who processed the body and it was taken to Kamwezi Healthy center IV mortuary for post-mortem and Rwandan authorities were accordingly informed,” Maate added.
Police say they have informed the Rwandan authorities about the incident.
