Just a few weeks ago, musicians under the umbrella, Save Uganda Music issued threats to boycott NTV Uganda over claims that her producers ask for bribes to play their music. And two, the station favors foreign music over local content. The musicians who are spearheaded by Eddy Kenzo, Gravity Omuttujju, and Jose Chameleone said they were not happy with most broadcast channels for sidelining them. Although the boycott is yet to materialize, a new move has emerged on the side of the musicians.
Word is that they are planning a free show for Face TV as a token for appreciation for playing 100% local music. This arrangement is still in its early stages though. Eddy Kenzo says they intend to do this to boost the station.
A large section of musicians converged at Laftaz bar about a month ago to discuss on how they can ‘save local music’
Their suggestion was that they are awarded a 70% airplay on local channels.
