The first deputy Prime Minister and Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga has hit back at selected politicians objecting to the Nyege Nyege festival slated for this weekend in Jinja City.

While speaking as the president's representative at the eighth coronation anniversary of the Kyabazinga, HRH Gabula Nadiope IV on Tuesday, Kadaga said that the Nyege Nyege festival is the biggest income-generating activity for locals in Busoga Region because it attracts thousands of tourists and revelers.

She said the Busoga subregion especially Buikwe and Kayunga districts respectively benefit directly and indirectly and inform of trading goods and services like hotels and lodges and canceling it will definitely cripple their economy.

The Minister for East African Affairs also stated that Uganda is a morally upright country and it is impossible for responsible authorities to approve immorality festivals aimed at sinking the cultural values of society.

She further also challenged leaders to use their platforms in promoting the economic interests of Busoga, rather than sabotaging them.

Kadaga however says that the mixed reactions by the public against the Nyege Nyege festival, have instead created more publicity and interest from the public.
