Police has heavily deployed at the International Crimes Division of the High Court, where three judges are expected to deliver their ruling in the murder case against 14 muslim clerics.

The 14 men are accused of participating in the murders of Muslim leaders including Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga, the former Kampala District Amir, Hassan Ibrahim Kirya, the former Kibuli Spokesman and Dr. Abdulqadir Muwaya the top Shia leader in Uganda. The trio was gunned down on different occasions and dates in Bwebajja in Wakiso district, Bweyogerere and Mayuge district respectively.

This morning, a prison bus carrying the accused arrived at a fully parked and heavily guarded court at 9:00am, only to be informed that the ruling will be delivered at 2:00PM, by the three judges led by Ezekiel Mwanguhya. The other justices are Percy Tuhaise and Jane Kiggundu.

The accused include Muhammad Yunus Kamoga, the leader of Tabligh Muslims under Jamat Da'wa Assalafiyya. Others are; Sheikh Siraji Kawooya, Sheikh Murta Mudde Bukenya, Sheikh Fahad Kalungi, Amir Kinene, Hakim Kinene Muswaswa, Katende Yusufu alias Abdallah, Sekayanja Abdulsalam alias Kassim Mulumba, Sematimba Abudulhamid Mubiru, Hamza Kasirye, Twaha Sekitto, Jingo Rashid, Musa Issa Mubiru and Iga George William.

Judgement in Sheikh Kamoga case pushed to 2pm

At court, Police has restricted access to the court premises.

Those accessing the court premises are passing through metal detectors and are also subjected to thorough body checks. Whereas journalists are only asked to present their identity cards and register, all the other people accessing the court premises in Kampala are asked to surrender their national identity cards before they are registered.

Police have also deployed personnel from different units including counter terrorism, regular and plain cloth officers.

The Judiciary Senior Communications Officer Solomon Muyita, says the three justices of the International Crimes Division of High Court will deliver their judgment at 2pm.

"There will be a little delay in delivering the judgement.  What is happening is that the panel wants to compare their judgement and it's a normal thing. As you know they are three judges and so all of them might have different appreciation of the case and so they need to harmonise," muyita said.
