Jackson Agona, a Laboratory technician becomes the 23 person to die in a tragic accident that claimed 22 other lives in Kiryandongo district. He had been admitted with injuries.
The victim was of the seven survivors who had been airlifted to Nsambya Hospital on Saturday in a critical condition. Unfortunately, he passed this morning.
Last Friday, 22 people died on spot when a Kampala bound Gaaga bus registration number UAK 562-L hit the rear of a tractor before colliding with an oncoming truck in Nanda village, some 12 kilometres from Karuma Township in Mutunda Sub County.
Angona’s brother Felix Ongom, says the deceased had since Saturday been in the Intensive Care Unit.
Other survivors at Nsambya hospital include; Gloria Akullo, Robson Santos Okello, Jackline Apio, Malcolm Kabunga, Anthony Lauryn Odwe and a 9-year old boy Nathan Mulangira. Others at Mulago are Majid Kintu, Ruth Martha, David Mutebi, Abdu Sempijja, Joel Wasswa and Simon Ojok.
Lucy Nakyobe, the State house Comptroller on Monday delivered a total of Shillings 3 million to the relatives of Agona and those of other survivors.
During the handover of the cash, Nakyobe told the victims that it was in fulfillment of the president's promise to support them financially. After receiving the monies, the injured or their caregivers, signed an acknowledgement. Families of the deceased on the other hand, received Shillings 5 million each.
Meanwhile, today marks day three and last day of the national mourning period declared by government on Sunday, in memory of the victims.
