As you enter these town suburbs, you are welcomed by shrines and sign posts that direct you to the homes of these witch doctors. Even people who live around those areas can testify. Witch doctors from all over East Africa come and camp in Kasangati and Gayaza. It seems these witch doctors solve people’s problems that are why they have managed to live there for long time.
In Kasanganti, there is a well-known witch doctor called Gitta. This man has been there for a long time. When we visited the area, we were informed that he only works for government workers and high profile people in this country.
When you visit the place only big cars are parked in the area. He has a big following and his home is few metres from Dr. Kizza Besigye’s home.
There are many recreational places in Gayaza or Kasangati apart from small bars that sell cheap alcochol and local booze.
Furthermore, we were informed that in Kasangati everyone is a spy. Due to the current beef between Besigye and the government, everyone has taken over the spying job. People who drink in local bars say, new faces have are often seen in Kasangati. They live a low and quite life and it has been revealed that they are spies.
Army men and detectives take over Gayaza and Kasangati as the night falls. They beat up drunkards who move late in the night. Actually, for one to move at night in Kasangati, you must be having some money left in your pocket to give cops who may attack you as you head home.
