KAMPALA. May 15, 2014. Action on the sand in the Pepsi National Beach Soccer league has reached its final bend with the last round of matches to determine the 2013/2014 league winner scheduled for this Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Lido Beach Entebbe.
“Pepsi have been sponsoring a number of activities for the Uganda Beach Soccer Association, especially the Pepsi National Beach Soccer League for the past year and we strongly believe it is a great platform that will help us bring to life brand Pepsi and our new global thematic campaign called ‘Live For Now’,” Mr Innocent Tibayeita, the head of sales and marketing at Crown Beverages Limited, said.
In May last year, Pepsi bankrolled the national beach soccer league with Shs150 million to ensure that the league runs smoothly.
Mr Tibayeita said the grand finale will have much more than just soccer on the menu.
“Pepsi Cola is about fun, entertainment, youthfulness and great refreshing taste. Youth desire to grab as much fun, activity, excitement and spontaneous opportunities. They live in the now. Our new thematic campaign seeks to capture the fun and entertainment that is now,” he added.
Besides the action on the sand, fans will be able to enjoy jet skies, water sports, fans challenges where fans will win lots of prizes like video game consoles, movie tickets for the Amazing Spider-man 2, and sodas, in addition to entertainment from some of the finest musicians like Fille and Bobi Wine plus dj mixing from one of the best in the business Dj Shiru.
“We expect bigger crowds as close the league season and they will provide good mileage for Pepsi. We are happy that Pepsi has been our good partner since last year,” Mr Deo Mutabazi, the president of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association, said.
The league champion, runner-up and second runner-up will be crowned on that day and players will be handed medals.
Sixteen teams have been taking part in the league.
Besides the league games, there will be exhibition games that will see sports journalists, UBSA officials and fans playing each other.
Uganda Beach Soccer Association is now part of the worldwide football/beach soccer family of associations recognised and supported by Fifa having gained admission into the Federation of Uganda Football Associations mid-2012.
