Truthfully, 2017 has not been very blessed with musical hits to keep people on their feet. Most musicians have been suffering from troubles that show up during the music incubation and eats up all their creativity. How do you explain the current consistent “dry spell” of music in the music industry? We have many good musicians out there; it’s about going back to basics and following the rules that will bring out that poise in our music.
A few years back, we used to have ‘anthems’ [call them hits] that an ordinary herdsman from Kiruhura district would also sing while returning cows home. I mean songs like; Baala - Daxx Kartel, Mariaroza - Eddy Kenzo, Musawo - Winnie Nwagi, Memories - A Pass ft Lilian Mbabazi, Same Way - Lydia Jasmine and Geosteady among others. Well, this year we have not heard THAT EXPERIENCE. Many artistes have struggled with the practical blend of sound, lyrics, and pressure from fans.
In the spirit of making Ugandan music NICER again, a list of the Top 20 Ugandan songs has been compiled. These songs are like a panacea to our various personal issues and help us do away with the stress on the dance floor.
On this list, we’ll feature the best of the best of Ugandan music considering all genres and releases between Dec 2016 and Dec 2017. The list was compiled based on the number of times a song has been streamed and downloaded on the biggest free music platform in East Africa, Howwe.Biz.
Once again, these songs are not in any way my personal favourites but a compilation of the songs that rocked 2017.
